Tweni Talk: Support local during the lockdown

If you are elderly or sick, a small group of volunteers in Tweni will collect your medication from the chemist or even shop for you.

As South Africans, we think that we invincible and like to live on the edge. We are all impatient, but we need to learn a hard lesson here – suck it up and self-quarantine. Practice social distancing as far as possible – as Renee Coull says “Please support local from quick take-away coffees to the car guards. Every little purchase will help for the low months ahead”.

Bouquets to those restaurants who are offering a delivery service so that you don’t have to miss out on your weekly gastronomical pleasures. If you didn’t know, most supermarkets offer a delivery service and if you are elderly or sick, a small group of volunteers in Tweni will collect your medication from the chemist or even shop for you. And if you do need help, please let your scribe know.

The WhatsApp network is working well. Natasha Swart posted that her husband Herman saw a wallet being thrown out of a car window at 8.30am in Rethman Drive and stopped to pick it up. By posting a copy of the driver’s licence in the wallet across groups, by 11am, Samantha Patterson responded that the owner was staying at her place and he got his wallet back.

Birthdays this week – there are big celebrations and Tweni welcomes not one, but two octogenarians. Jean Dean celebrates today (25th) and Norma Clark on March 28. These two waomen are still very active in the community and we wish them well. Other birthdays are Bronwyn Clark and Kerry-Lee Jessen (25th).
