Church needs help to keep feeding families
Individuals and businesses can help aid this humanitarian effort by making a monetary or grocery donation.
Living Word Hibiscus Coast in Umtentweni has reached out to feed more than 160 families a week through its relief parcel project.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, many families in the community have had their income reduced and some are not be able to earn an income at all because they cannot leave their homes.
Living Word’s relief parcels contain basic groceries to help these vulnerable individuals during this difficult period.

The areas they are focusing on are Umtentweni, Southport and Sea Park. They have also assisted the communities of Louisiana and KwaMadlala. Wilko Kunz of Living Word said they had now reached capacity but would try their utmost to carry on feeding the 162 families on their registration list.

In the meantime, they will begin to compile another standby registration list, but will not at this stage be able to promise these families food. “We have already had to turn away some 30 families, and it breaks my heart when I can’t help hungry families with children,” he added. “We would love to help 400 families in the next 12 weeks, but we don’t have the financial capacity to do so, as it would equate to R40 000 a week.”

He added that he had been amazed at how the community had opened their hearts to help pack and distribute food parcels from the church’s premises on a weekly basis. Wilko explained that 96 percent of their funding had come from individuals, with two percent from corporate sponsors. The remainder had been from contacts outside the area, and abroad. “We have not had a single cent from the government. This entire project has been self-funded.”
Wilko said the ‘why’ behind this project was to let people to know that Jesus loved them and they were merely His hands and feet.
