Sheppie actress Fundi reaches the stars
The 2003 Sheppie High head girl Fundi Zwane is no stranger to the South African television and creative arts industry. During her third year at varsity she landed her breakthrough role in the hit soapie, Generations.
Port Shepstone-born actress Fundi Zwane is flying the South Coast flag high in more ways than one. Fundi is best known for her leading role as Madonsela in the ground-breaking hit television show, Imbewu: The Seed which is screened on Etv.

Last month the popular TV series, filmed in Durban, won the coveted South African Film and Television (SAFTA) award for Most Popular Soap/Telenovela, as determined by a South African audience vote. This is the second award for a South African drama series created by Duma Ndlovu and executive producers Anant Singh and Leleti Khumalo. Last year the cast and crew scooped an award for Etv’s fastest growing show.
A daily on-screen viewership of 4.5 million and a social media reach of 500 000 makes the ‘Fundi Zwane’ brand an influential household name in South Africa and abroad. “There is so much excitement about this award among the cast and crew. All the hard work – early mornings and late nights – have been worth it,” said a bubbly Fundi.

Fundi juggles being the mother of a six-year-old with acting and being the proud founding director of The Phezulu Phambili Collective.
Her passion and flair to marry all things creative with business is what Fundi said had given Phezulu Phambili its competitive edge in the ever-changing digital era.
She also produced her own online show last year called Living Lit with @Fundi_Zwane which is available to view on YouTube.The multi-talented woman has used lockdown to connect and collaborate with influential people in the film industry. “I’ve got a some beautiful offerings in the pipeline,” she said. Fundi’s fashion is an expression of style and colour. “I celebrate my body shape, and support local designers, who use my body as a canvas.”
