Biker dies in crash near Port Edward

Family, friends and the biking community from around the country are in shock at the news.

Paul Folly (58) of Shelly Beach died in a motorcycle accident on the R61 near Port Edward at noon today. The incident happened not far from The Estuary Hotel while he had been on a breakfast ride with his club, The Wild Bunch.

The riders were on their way back to Shelly Beach from Port Edward, having come through on the Izingolweni route via Lake Eland.

One of his friends explained what happened. “His tyre burst, he had a speed wobble and went off the road. It was basically a freak accident because he wasn’t a ‘speed freak’ at all, and he always kept his bike in tip-top condition.”

An NSRI volunteer who happened to be passing by responded, as did Airtrack 101 Security, paramedics and local Saps. “The ambulance and advanced life support response unit were dispatched but unfortunately despite everyone’s best efforts, the man died on the scene,” said Glen Preston of Med-Evac Ambulance Services.

Paul was the owner of Margate Glass and Aluminium. Tributes and condolences are pouring in on Facebook for his wife Michelle and family.
