Elderly Ezinqoleni couple dies after being stabbed several times and set alight

Two suspects, aged 25 and 32, were arrested in the KwaNyuswa area. More arrests are expected.

An elderly couple aged 60 and 62 years respectively were attacked at their home in KwaNyuswa area in Ezinqoleni last Sunday, June 7.

Police spokesman, Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the couple was dragged from their house and stabbed several times before being set alight. “Their house was also set alight. Ezinqoleni SAPS found both victims had died.”

Two suspects, aged 25 and 32 ,were arrested in the KwaNyuswa area as they attempted to flee the scene.  They are expected to appear in the Ezingolweni Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and arson. More arrests are expected as investigations continue.

“I am glad that the culprits who killed these defenceless elderly people so brutally have been brought to book. We are hoping the remaining suspects will be arrested soon so that they can answer for their crimes,” said KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
