WATCH: Bus bursts into flames near Port Edward

All the passengers made it out of the bus safely before it caught alight.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after a bus caught alight near Port Edward earlier this afternoon.

Glen Preston from Medivac said all the passengers made it out of the vehicle before it caught alight.

The bus was travelling from the Eastern Cape to KwaZulu-Natal.

The bus had made it through the Covid-19 roadblock on the Eastern Cape side, and was en-route to the KZN roadblock when the passengers noticed smoke billowing from the vehicle.

Mr Preston added that one patient had slight burns to the hand, but refused medical treatment.

He said their ambulance had to return to the scene to treat a patient with a heart condition.

The bus was filled to capacity with passengers, and most of the the passengers luggage strapped on the top was engulfed in the fire.
