Port Shepstone stalwart is mourned

Clive Smithwick was involved in many charitable organisations including the daily operation of the Port Shepstone Recovery Centre.

The Smithwick family of Port Sheptone is mourning the loss of husband and father, Clive (54), who died in Hibiscus Hospital on September 22.

He had been ill for about two weeks.

A prominent businessman in the area, he ventured into construction and plumbing 20 years ago and established RDC Builders and Plumbing.

Later on, he broadened his scope of expertise to air conditioning.

Being a philanthropist, Mr Smithwick was involved in many charitable organisations including the daily operation of the Port Shepstone Recovery Centre.

He played a vital role in the successful rehabilitation of many youth plagued by drug abuse, something he was very passionate about.

He had a soft spot for the destitute and also assisted in many religious and cultural organisations.

Mr Smithwick hails from the Buchaya clan who are pioneers of Port Shepstone.

He is survived by his wife Rachael and sons, Dezlyn and Ricardo.
