A local driving school instructor was in the middle of a driving lesson with his student in Park Rynie when they were both suddenly accosted by two armed men last Friday at about 7.30am.
One of the men pointed a firearm at the two and demanded the vehicle.
After stealing the vehicle, a security response team spotted it on the freeway and gave chase.

“Near Umbumbulu, the hijackers shot at the security officers, who then returned fire,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.
The men drove up the R603 and crashed into other motorists in the process.
The vehicle was eventually stopped while the shootout still ensued and one of the men was able to escape while the other was fatally wounded and then declared dead at the scene.
The vehicle was recovered and both the driving school instructor and learner driver were unharmed.
