Lions rally behind Joan Robins
Joan has truly been an inspiration to all she has touched.
Two fundraisers will be held by the Lions for for much-loved member Joan Robins, who has been diagnosed with stage four melanoma cancer.
Ramsgate Lions is hosting a fundraiser at its clubhouse this Friday (12th) from 6pm.
A second fundraiser, organised by Port Shepstone and Shelly Beach Lions clubs, will be held at Port Shepstone Country Club this Sunday (14th) from 1pm.
Enjoy an afternoon of live music and a delicious meal for only R50.
All proceeds raised will go towards her medical expenses.
Over the years, Joan has helped many people in need, and now she really needs the community’s help.
Joan was born in Durban on September 12, 1947 and attended Southern Commercial High in Port Shepstone.
She became a qualified hairdresser and plied her trade for many years.
Later, she became interested in teaching and her last job was as a teacher at Margate Middle School where she taught art and art history.
Joan was married and had two sons, Warren and Nicholas.
Vibrant Joan is always the life of any party or function that she attends.
She is also a very public minded person, empathetic to the needy and downtrodden, a moral compass and a positive energy force.
Joan joined the Lions in the 1995/96 Lionistic year and was an avid member until December 2020, when she decided that other entities needed more of her attention.
She is still recognised as an integral part of the Lions family even if it is only as friend to the institution known as Lions.
Joan was always enthusiastically involved in projects put forward by the Lions.
She is a committee member on the Margate Clinic Board, and also on the Arts and Culture Board for Ugu.
Joan was the Ramsgate Lions Christmas ‘wrapping lady’, food collection volunteer, diabetes testing volunteer, prizes collector and many, many more functions.
