Ken Koster marches to Monthly Mug victory
This month’s monthly mug winner was Ken Koster who shot the lights out to finish five better than his handicap on 65 nett.
Forty-eight players took on the challenge of the March Monthly Medal and Stableford competition, and by the look of the great scores, the rains of the last week have served to make the course even more playable.
It will be interesting to see if the new handicapping system for competitions makes any difference to the ‘usual suspects’ who regularly take home the honours.
This month’s monthly mug winner was Ken Koster who shot the lights out to finish five better than his handicap on 65 nett.
His excellent run included winning the jackpot with 11 points on the allotted four holes, and his total of 41 points took top honours in the D Division by a big margin from Nigel Henson.
The A Division was won by Russell Cumming, who also played better than his handicap, winning on 39 points.
Jacques Kirstein came second with 34 points.
B Division was hotly contested and several players finished with better-than-handicap scores.
Kuben Naidoo was crowned the divisional winner with 39 points and Mike Madsen’s 37 points handed him the runners-up voucher.
Norman Mackay won the C Division with 35 points and Mark Benzecon came second on 33 points.
The ladies medal winner was decided on a count-out 74 nett, with Sabiha Hulley pipping Sue Boucher.
Sadly, our ladies who competed in the KZN Championship at Victoria Country Club did not bring back any silverware.
By all accounts, the tough rough and slippery greens demanded lots of guts, and served little glory, as the ladies struggled their way around.
It’s time for the fifth installment of the Betterball League this Saturday (13th).
