Herald hosts Bring a Girl Child to Work

Four learners from Nombuso High School spent the morning at the South Coast Herald, learning the ins and outs of a newsroom.

The Ugu District has run a programme called “Bring a Girl Child to Work.”

The programme is an initiative to expose learners to different career paths and for them to observe how different businesses work.

Female students from Nombuso High School were selected to visit different places of work today (Thursday), with the South Coast Herald being of them.

Learners were picked up from the Ray Nkonyeni Council Chambers.

Isiphile Dlamini and Phumelele Njapha catch up on the latest news.

The newspaper hosted four Grade 10 learners, Angel Khuzwayo, Noneka Mthwa, Isiphile Dlamini and Phumelele Njapha.

They were all eager to explore and gain insight as to how a newsroom and all other components such as advertising and production work.

The girls had a discussion with the Editor and fellow journalists, where they shared how they consumed news and were able to ask questions.

Angel aspires to become a chef, which comes as no surprise as her favourite subject is Consumer Studies.

Noneka, who is a Science and Mathematics boffin, says that she would like to pursue Astronomy at university when she finishes school.

Isiphile enjoys Life Sciences and wishes to pursue medicine.

Finally, Phumelele enjoys Agriculture at school but says that she would love to become a Cardiothoracic Surgeon in the future.

It was an enjoyable morning and learners were able to expand their horizons in terms of career paths.
