WATCH: ‘Infectious metal’ invite for Hate Speech

The South Coast's loudest and only metal band has been given the golden ticket to play at the Infectious Metal Outbreak Africa Metal Fest at Rumours Rock City in Gauteng on June 15.

Hate Speech has been invited to play (and get the pit moshing) at the Infectious Metal Outbreak Africa Metal Fest at Rumours Rock City in Gauteng on June 15.

The venue is the premier venue in South Africa for metal and alternative acts.

Vocalist and song writer Russell Stroud said the invite came about as the result of them being featured as the SA Metal Band of the week some time ago on Doors Rock Radio when four of their songs enjoyed extensive play.

Doors Rock Radio in association with Ragebreed Magazine UK are co-hosting the event.

Joining them will be Thorns of Ivory from Durban and Kill Frenzy from Cape Town, among others.

It’s no secret that Hate Speech is the South Coast’s loudest heavy metal band – largely contributed by Russell’s distinct vocal death growl.

Russell said after they return from their gig in Gauteng the band plans on finalising their album which consists of 12 or 13 songs.

The band even has enough material to cut a second album.

“We have certainly learnt a lot about recording and familiarised ourselves with the software, so the second album should go a lot quicker,” he said.

“You learn as you go along… but, our band member, Rudi van Wyk is also a perfectionist when it comes to recording our songs.”

So fans, brace yourselves for a fine collection of Hate Speech songs.

Hate Speech rose from the ashes in 1994, and its genre is best described as a combination of punk rock and heavy metal.

The band members are Russell (vocals), Brady Jordan (guitar), Graeme Messina (bass) and Rudi (drums). Sunday is band practise day at Russell’s seaside home in Southport and this he said consists of ‘a lot of hard hard work and no beers.’

Microphones only last six months in the sound-proof practise room, once again – thanks to Russell’s bellowing powerful voice.

So if any of the locals find themselves in Gauteng at that time, and in Russell’s words; ‘please come along to SA’s top music venue for a wild night of thrashing metal.’
