Nurses commended for role in saving lives

Mrs Maqutu expressed her gratitude to the nurses for showing the world the great role they play in keeping others alive, even in difficult times.

Port Shepstone nurses, led by nursing manager Mandisa Maqutu and Pastor T Hlengwa, celebrated International Nurses’ Day by holding a nursing parade outside the hospital premises, to showcase the value of their profession and the beauty of nurses in their pristine white uniforms earlier this month.

Overjoyed, the hospital’s CEO, Bawinile Ndlovu supported the nurses by wearing her nursing uniform as she had previously worked as a nurse. Highlighting the theme of this year’s International Nurses’ Day, ‘Nurses: A Voice to Lead – a Vision for Future Healthcare’ and citing the example of her education, the CEO encouraged nurses on the importance of education in self-development and having broader knowledge of their profession.

Keynote speaker, Nomaswazi Gwexe thanked the nurses at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital for their professionalism, dedication and further encouraged them to remain steadfast and resilient at all times.

A candlelight service was conducted to honour and remember fallen heroes and heroines. The nursing management team presented each family with a lamp of hope and a certificate expressing gratitude of the hospital management for the contribution made by their loved ones during their lifetime.

Although everyone was emotional during this time, they were comforted to hear about the good work done by their colleagues.

At the end of the day’s proceedings, a delicious meal was served to all the families and employees who attended the function.
