Sardines pop in at Margate main beach
The sun came out after three days after heavy rain, and the sardines stopped in at Margate beach.
After all the rain and wind this week there was great excitement when the famous little silver fish made a visit at Margate beach earlier today.

The local seine netters said this sardine activity was very unusual and pretty unheard of, coming after three days of heavy rain has made the sea muddy brown.

Reports from the shore indicated that three crates of sardines were caught from the boats and about 10 crates by the cast netters.

Although it was ‘small fry’ to the seine netters – the ‘sardine fever’ – attracted a large crowd.

Many arrived with their cast nets in attempt to catch the small fish which were spotted close to shore.
Others came down to the beach just to be part of the fun and miss out on all the excitement.

One local netter said that if the water hadn’t been so dirty it would have been a very successful week of netting.

Despite the muddy water, there’s still optimism that there still might be some kind of run soon, so watch this space!
