Swift arrest for armed robbers
Police noticed that the men changed their clothing after the robbery and the discarded clothing was found in the getaway vehicle – which was in fact a hired vehicle.
Six armed men, between the ages of 25 and 28, were arrested by police last month and are expected to appear in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court this week for a formal bail application. The men are facing charges following a business robbery which occurred at a liquor store in Hibberdene on May 21 at 17:00.

An hour after the robbery, they were spotted by police in Mtwalume who then sought assistance from Scottburgh Saps.
“The station commander of Scottburgh Saps, Colonel Ralph Ruiters, together with his members blocked the north bound of the N2 freeway and the target vehicle was stopped,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis. “They were found in possession of the cash and alcohol that was taken in the robbery.”
Police noticed that the men changed their clothing after the robbery and the discarded clothing was found in the getaway vehicle – which was in fact a hired vehicle. “A pistol with ammunition and a toy gun was also confiscated from the suspects,” added Captain Francis.
The Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Agnes Nxamagele, has since commended Colonel Ruiters and all the members who were involved in the swift arrest of these suspects and warns other criminals that there is no place to hide because they will be tracked down.
