Impound event a barking success

About R400 000 was raised at the Lower South Coast SPCA and Hibiscus Coast Impound event last Friday.

Take a bow, South Coast community and local businesses!

About R400 000 was raised at the Lower South Coast SPCA and Hibiscus Coast Impound event last Friday.

Locals braved the chilly weather to raise funds, by spending the night in a kennel.

It was certainly one of the biggest fundraisers in the history books of the LSC SPCA.

“We are so grateful for the public support, and it came just in time. We are really in financial dire straights and we can’t afford to not be running our vehicles to pick up animals stranded on the road, or in need of veterinary assistance, for example,” said Scott Kvalsvig, chairman of the Lower South Coast SPCA.

“The public’s support has given the staff’s moral and the committee a huge boost that the public has got confidence in us and that they are willing to donate their hard earned money towards the society.”

Carla Steenkamp, vice chairman of the SPCA, said the wow factor is that local businesses stood together and raised a figure that they could never had dreamed possible.

“In the last three years we have grown from strength to strength, and expanded with less money. Not only do we assist domestic pets but we also help wildlife and marine creatures,” she added.

The SPCA runs on R500 000 per month, so needs the ongoing support from the public.

Don’t forget the charity shops based in Uvongo, Southcoast Mall and at Shelly Beach. All clothing, household items and antiques are welcome.
