New future envisioned for Genesis Care Centre
Sadly, at the end of March 2021, due to unforeseen circumstances, the centre had to close its doors.
Since March 2005, the Genesis Care Centre, the flagship project of the Genesis Trust, a faith-based, non-profit and public benefit organisation, has been a long-standing healthcare institution in the community.
For the last 16 years the centre has worked in partnership with the Department of Health and local government hospitals and clinics to nurse and care for over 5200 patients suffering with HIV/Aids, TB, diabetes, a stroke, cancer, or another chronic illness.
Sadly, at the end of March 2021, due to unforeseen circumstances, the centre had to close its doors.
“In a world that is constantly changing, Genesis has had to embrace a few changes as well. We are delighted to continue to partner with and to serve our community by offering a frail care and palliative care unit which will be privately funded, but will continue to serve with the high standard that Genesis has always been able to offer,” said Senior Pastor Trevor Downham.
“As we say goodbye to an unforgettable project, we also say goodbye to its remarkable leader. Sharon Jones, the Operations Manager of the Genesis Care Centre, will be retiring at the end of June this year.”
Executive Pastor Jeff de Winnaar echoed these sentiments. “I have had the opportunity of working alongside Sharon in varying capacities for the past 14 years. Sharon is a woman of high integrity and an unquestionable work ethic. She had high expectations of her co-workers and led strongly, yet she was at her best sitting at the bedside of a dying patient and telling them about Jesus. She will be missed.”Sharon will always be remembered in the hearts and minds of the many lives that she touched. It is a huge loss to Genesis, and she is wished the very best for her retirement.
Although this is the end of a chapter, it is not the end of the story. The Genesis Care Centre is currently in a transitional phase and will be embarking on a new path in a new direction, and there is great excitement to see where it leads.
