Former Sheppie High dux obtains PhD

Her PhD research focused on a multi-stage purification protocol for human serum-derived exosomes and evaluated their regenerative potential.

Former Tweni resident, Candice de Boer graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Biomaterials, in December 2020 from the University of Cape Town.

Candice was also the Dux of Port Shepstone Senior Primary School (2005), and Port Shepstone High School (2010).

Furthermore, Candice graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal with a Bachelor of Science (Summa Cum Laude) in Biochemistry and Genetics (2014) and a Bachelor of Science Honours (Cum Laude) in Biochemistry (2015).

Candice expanded her studies at the University of Cape Town (Department of Surgery) where she upgraded from a Master of Science in Medicine (Biomaterials) to a Doctor of Philosophy, which she completed in December 2020.

Her PhD research focused on a multi-stage purification protocol for human serum-derived exosomes and evaluated their regenerative potential.

Candice will be pursuing a post-doctoral position in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Maastricht University Medical Center in the Netherlands.

Dr de Boer is wished a successful future ahead.
