Disabled man aims to help physically challenged become mobile
The organisation not only motivates the disabled to become drivers but also encourages them to aim further in the world of work, as most jobs require a driver’s licence.
Magazi’s Learners and Driving for the Disabled, a non-profit organisation in Port Shepstone is looking for 10 people who are physically challenged and would like to obtain their learner’s and driver’s licences.
“I have received funding from the National Lotteries Commission,” said Viran Maniram, who started Magazi’s in February 2020.
As he is disabled himself and went through a tough time acquiring his driver’s licence, his focus now is to help the physically challenged become mobile.
The Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown prevented the driving school from becoming operational earlier on.
The organisation not only motivates the disabled to become drivers but also encourages them to aim further in the world of work, as most jobs require a driver’s licence.
“The physically challenged want to get their independence back and the driving school will help fill the gap,” said Viran.
Magazi’s is registered with both the departments of social welfare and transport.
A modified vehicle has been secured, as well as an instructor.
If interested, contact Viran on 084 6920305.
