Covid-19 scare: Lower South Coast SPCA closes temporarily

The SPCA is appealing to the community to assist in providing food for their Ark heroes. They will cook all food themselves, if you can donate food it will be appreciated.

The Lower South Coast SPCA will be temporarily closed.

Unfortunately, this was instructed by a medical doctor for the benefit of the staff, community and mostly the animals.

Carla Steenkamp, vice chairman of the LSC SPCA, said the committee is assisted by a local doctor to make sure that any decision it makes is made in the right direction.

The society is going into Ark protocols as with the first wave.

“Staff will stay on the property to take care of our animals. We have two animal health technicians also at the unit to take care of our animals’ medical needs,” said Mrs Steenkamp.

A vet is on standby, but for strictly emergencies only.

“If you have donations for the SPCA, please drop them off at our shops, it will be greatly appreciated, we are in desperate times and need all the help we can get,” said Mrs Steenkamp.

She said it had been a difficult decision to take, but one that had to be done.

“If you were at the SPCA in the past three weeks and were in close contact with one of our staff members and you show any symptoms, please get yourself tested. Up until now, all protocols and Covid-19 tests have shown as ‘non detected’.”

Once again the SPCA is appealing to the community to assist in providing food for its Ark heroes.
A meeting was held at the society where a decision was reached to temporarily close the SPCA premises in Uvongo.
They will cook all food themselves, if you can donate food it will be appreciated.

You can drop it off at the unit.

The gate will be closed but you can call Jacob on 060 5020418 or Zubinati on 064 9602700.

Please take a selfie, so you can be thanked.

The Ark plan will make sure that the society does not have to euthanize any animals.

The society’s inspectorate team will be working as usual.

It has appealed to the public that if you are going to bring an  animal to the SPCA, make use of their after hours kennels.

Please contact 083226354 to report of animals in need.

Mrs Steenkamp said the SPCA asks for the community’s continued and thanked everyone for the support received to date.
