Hall and Jones take the whiskey

After the Lord Mayor’s show…so the saying goes, here at Scottburgh Golf Club we’ve also had a clean up of sorts.
The nuisance palms along the fourth fairway have had a good trim, no doubt releasing the many ball stuck up in them.
The rest of the palms are all waiting in line just as if they were in the local barber shop.
So, while the grass is semi dormant the housekeeping is in full swing.
There were some tired looking golfers on Wednesday after the previous week’s tournament as we played a Combined Stableford.
Riding a wave were Denis Brown and Brian Richards who surfed to a two point win with 67 points over second placed Allan Eriksen and Derek Cowden with 65.
The latter two however made up for their disappointment by rolling in 2-clubs, along with Wayne Simpson.
Old pro Trevor Wilkes has picked up a few trophies in his time and on Wednesday he managed another, and with Russel Lawson he was presented with Stone Last.
It was P&G Construction time on Saturday, always a well supported day particularly as the threatened lockdown loomed.
Captain Bob Hall hobbled along with Gary Jones to take the whisky with 43 points to outdo John Mills and Thys Swart into second spot and the “red, red wine” on a count out.
The two Petes, Gilliver and Morris took the white wine for third on 41 and also managed to recoup some of their cash from their wives who have been picking their golf pockets of late.
Anton Visage found the hidden holes and Brian Richards had the only 2-club, with Geoff Thommasen and Mick Marriot picking up the Stone,
Coming up on Wednesday is an Individual Stableford and on Thursday evening unless we’re in lockdown is the Annual General Meeting. So, if you want to know what’s going off at the club and you would like to voice your opinions then come along at 18:00 and say it, not on the course or in the pub after a game and a few drinks.
Flyer’s footnote: At Scotties we usually play with friends, but we don’t play friendly games…ask the two Petes.
