People aged 50 to 59 urged to register for Covid jab
However, there has been slow response to vaccinations from this age group.
The management of Port Shepstone Regional Hospital extends its gratitude to all staff who worked amid the unrest last week, especially as the focus is on providing Covid-19 vaccinations to the population.
As of July 1, registration for the Covid-19 vaccination on the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) opened for people aged 50 to 59 with scheduled appointments for their vaccinations from July 5.
However, there has been slow response to vaccinations from this age group.
“We have noted with concern that people from this age group are not in coming in large numbers for their vaccinations, yet they form the biggest part of our population. We urge them to register and report to their nearest public sector site once they receive a notification,” said Phumza Morai, PRO at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital.
This week the EVDS system has allocated appointment slots in the following order of priority:
* People aged 50 to 59 who require their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
* People 60 years and older for their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
* Those 35 years and older can register and a limited number of walk-ins will be accommodated at the sites depending on the available capacity and vaccine doses at each individual site.
“We thank the public for working together with us, for their co-operation and patience at the vaccination sites,” said Ms Morai.
