Handyman helps flush away public toilet problems

Rico Joubert recently took it upon himself to repair broken toilets and sinks and paint the walls of the public bathroom opposite Battery Centre in Port Shepstone.
“By starting small, we can restore our community,” says Joubert.
“The facility was rundown with broken taps and water dripping on the floor. We complain that we need water, but if you look around the area, water is being wasted.”

He started the project recently, and so far has used money from his own pocket to repair the women’s toilets. “People who use the facilities appreciate the repairs.”
The bathroom is open to the public, Monday to Friday and locked in the evenings.

He urged others to get involved in similar projects in the community, not only to upgrade their surroundings but to uplift the coast. “If everyone stands together, we can restore our community,” he added.
