Movie studio aims to empower youth

In order to promote youth empowerment in the mid-South Coast, Boulevard Films International has welcomed two skilled youngsters, Samkelisiwe Mthethwa and Innocent Msani, to its Scottburgh movie studio for upcoming projects.

South Coast local Samkelisiwe is a self taught make-up artist who has been passionate about what she does since 2015. “One of the challenges I face of being self taught is that many people want people with degrees to their name, but I was grateful for this studio seeing my potential and awarding me this opportunity regardless,” she said.
The young make-up artist went on to state that she believes being on a platform like this will encourage other youngsters in the area to strive to do better and believe in their dreams.
“I am so excited to be working with people on movies and entertainment sets and I know that I will be able to build myself from this and gain a lot of experience and knowledge.” “I also can’t wait to learn how to do special effects make-up for cuts, bruises and more.”
Amandawe resident Innocent shared similar sentiments of encouragement and upliftment. He has been doing photography since 2010 and has had many exciting gigs over the years, including work at the South African Traditional Music Awards a few years ago. “I’m overjoyed to be given a chance to work on things like feature films and music videos, but most importantly, I also want to show the youth that they can achieve so much in life when they focus on their goals and stay away from drugs and alcohol,” he said.

Bruce Gounder of Boulevard Films International hopes that these two locals will be seen as a beacon of hope for the youth. “I just want others to be encouraged by these two new colleagues of mine, and I hope whatever they learn here at the movie studio will be taught to others and we eventually have a sort of chain reaction of knowledge going from one person to another,” said Bruce. “There are also several local stylists who we also wish to empower and work with in upcoming projects,” he said. “The goal is to get the youth away from social ills to focus on empowering themselves.”
