Dog walkers wanted

Sarah explained that here are a handful of regulars who help her every month raise the funds for Richard.

If you have ever wanted to help walk the dogs at the Lower South Coast SPCA, now is your chance.

The society is looking for volunteers to walk the dogs or to spend time playing with the puppies, cats and kittens.

If you are unable to walk the dogs but would love help employ someone who can walk the dogs, you can contribute towards the salary of an experienced dog handler, Richard Rheeders.

Sarah Unsworth, the society’s treasurer has privately raised money and has managed to employ three dog walkers during the last five years.

Richard has walked the dogs daily for the last 18 months.

“It’s important that the dogs get out the kennels daily and get used to walking on a lead making them easier to get adopted out,” she said.

Richard takes his job seriously, and religiously walks the dogs from 7.30am.

“A huge thank you from me to the sponsors (you know who you are!) for helping to employ Richard over the last five years. I have been so grateful! There are so many silent supporters of the SPCA in so many ways, and it is amazing, and much appreciated.”

A small group walk the dogs on a Sunday between 8.30am and 10.30am.

There is currently no-one assisting on a Saturday.

If you would like to donate or join the ‘dog walkers’ on a Sunday please contact Sarah on 083 331 3866.
