Pageant finalist requests South Coast support

While raising awareness on multiple matters, this pageant platform gives Tenisha an opportunity to engage in charity work.

Former Umzinto local, Kasavan Gounder relocated to Centurion, Gauteng a few years ago, and although he is a good couple of kilometres away from his hometown, he still stays true to his roots.

His daughter, Tenisha, now 17, grew up listening to her father’s numerous stories of Umzinto and from all the information she has gathered over the years, considers it a small, peaceful and beautiful little town.

The Gounder family is excited that Tenisha is taking part in a Miss Teen Pretoria pageant and was recently chosen as a finalist.

“It would mean so much to us if the people from my dad’s hometown supported me on this journey too,” said Tenisha.

The young finalist is a peer councilor at her school in Gauteng, and her duties include being a support system to fellow peers.

“With this, I have come across an issue regarding mental health, so in this pageant, I stand to raise awareness on how important mental health is,” she explained.

While raising awareness on multiple matters, this pageant platform gives Tenisha an opportunity to engage in charity work.

“As a finalist, one of my charities is to get sanitary towels for girls,” she said.
“It’s important to notice the impact that the physical and emotional changes of puberty may be having on girl’s self-esteem and self image. Girls around the country stop attending school or get bullied due to lack of toiletries.

My charity finally gives girls a chance to feel comfortable and restores their dignity.”
Tenisha calls upon all South Coast residents to help her win the pageant title.

“Besides winning a crown, more importantly I will be given a platform to do charitable work which will be my greatest reward,” she said.
