Hospice shop manager Darlene dies

Darlene had been battling cancer since last year.

Scottburgh’s Hospice Shop manager, Darlene Booth, died in hospital on August 10, aged 60. Darlene, the shop manager for the past 10 years, had been battling cancer since last year.

She was born in Zimbabwe and came to South African in 1983. She worked in Johannesburg for a number of years and later on moved to Scottburgh, in 2005. Darlene had no children and is survived by her mother, Marion Larking (91), who lives in Scottburgh.

In her time at the hospice shop, Darlene met many people – locals and holidaymakers, and had numerous volunteers coming and going to assist her in the shop.

“The volunteers know how that shop was the flagship of the hospice shops, beautifully decorated by Darlene herself, colour-coded and everything beautifully displayed,” said Marion.

“We trust the next person and volunteers will be able to keep up her legacy of the beautiful shop.”
Khanya Hospice staff members offered their sincerest condolences to Marion and gave thanks for Darlene’s many years of wonderful service.

“Darlene will be fondly remembered by our hospice family as well as all the loyal hospice charity shop supporters and her volunteers,” said Neil McDonald, CEO of Khanya Hospice. “Rest in peace our dear friend, you will be sorely missed, but we know you are now no longer experiencing any pain or discomfort anymore.”

There was no funeral, as per Darlene’s request.
