Soup donations from dancers

Dancers decided to help by collecting cup of soup sachets for the terminally ill patients that cannot eat solid food.

Dancers handed between 350 and 400 sachets of cup o’ soup to South Coast Hospice on Tuesday.

South Coast Hospice, based in Port Shepstone, provides palliative care and support to patients with cancer, HIV/Aids, motor neuron disease, TB and MDR TB.

The hospice team provides a choice of specialist care and support to enable patients to attain the highest possible quality of life, using an interdisciplinary approach.

Noel Roos from Dance Inline said that due to Covid-19, hospice has been unable to host any fundraisers, and this has put the non-profit organisation under a lot of pressure.

“Dancers decided to help by collecting cup of soup sachets for the terminally ill patients that cannot eat solid food,” he said.

Roos said it took the dancers from Dance Inline, ISO Line Dance and Ruth Jakeman Dance Studio about two weeks to collect the large stash of sachets.

“It was either ‘go big or go home’ for us, and what an incredible response we got,” he said.

Sadly, Voices for Hospices will not be held this year due to Covid-19.

Roos said school choirs are also not able to rehearse during this time due to pandemic regulations.

However, schools are being challenged to collect ‘brown money’ (small change) for the Hospice Love Bags.

All schools are invited to take up the challenge to collect the most money for hospice.

“The school who collects the most ‘brown money’ by the end of September will be rewarded by a Walton’s gift voucher,” said BT King of SC Hospice.

She thanked the community for its ongoing support.

Any school who would like a Hospice Love bag can contact Roos at 082 7203118.

Anyone wanting to drop of soup can do so at the hospice premises on 29 Connor Street, Port Shepstone.
