Support community market

While non-profits don't pay a fee, other marketers pay R50 per stall.

A community market to help non-profit organisations, the unemployed and entrepreneurs earn an income has been started in Port Shepstone.

The St Martin de Porres Fleamarket is held in Archibald Street, Port Shepstone every Saturday from 8:00 to 13:00.

Okkie Volschenk sell his wares at the market.

Organiser Johan Braack calls on the public to support the stallholders, as well as stallholders to set-up and sell their goods at the market.

Non-profits currently involved in the project are Hope House, Port Shepstone Child Welfare and Grace Disability Care.

While non-profits don’t pay a fee, other marketers pay R50 per stall.

Items being sold are food, arts and crafts, woodwork, bread, biscuits, cakes, pancakes, koeksisters, plants, compost and second hand goods.

According to Johan, one of the marketers African Organics recently held a drive and every bag of compost or potting soil sold a blanket was donated to the SPCA. They also donated compost to Tent City for their vegetable gardens.

Strict Covid-19 protocols are in place.
