Murder suspect arrested after high speed chase

Police found two handguns and 32 live ammunition in their possession.

A recent high speed chase on the N2 last week Thursday resulted in police successfully nabbing four armed men and recovering firearms and ammunition.

The arrest was made when Ugu District Operational Command Centre detectives received information about the men (aged between 25 and 43 years old) being armed and travelling in a Toyota Corolla, travelling from the north towards the South Coast.

A handgun seized at the crime scene.

Umzinto Saps, as well as its K9 unit and Port Shepstone K9 unit, were brought on board to make the arrest.

“The vehicle was spotted passing the Scottburgh area at high speed and police gave chase until it was pulled over near the Umtentweni Toll Plaza,” said Saps Ugu District communications officer, Captain Petros Mpinge.

Once the vehicle was stationary, a vehicle search was conducted and the men were detained.

Police found two handguns and 32 live ammunition in their possession.

“The initial investigation also revealed that one of the men is wanted in a murder case which was committed in the Eastern Cape in June this year,” said Mpinge.

The vehicle was impounded and the men are expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court soon.
