Roadblock conducted by law enforcement women reaps rewarding results

A number of arrests were made during the roadblock.

The rain did not stop women from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Law Enforcement, Saps and RTI conducting a roadblock near Mhlungwa Bridge in Hibberdene last Wednesday morning.

Ugu District Commissioner, Major-General Sethenya Nxamagele addressed the parade at Port Shepstone RTI offices in Marburg, about the purpose of the operation and that all involved in the operations needed to be constantly aware of their safety.

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said the operation was aimed at addressing crime in relation to gender based violence (GBV), drug abuse and the killing of law enforcement officers.

A number of different pamphlets provided by Ugu District Communications addressing these subjects was distributed to motorists.

During the roadblock a 28-year-old man was arrested for possession of drugs.

Five parcels of dagga, wrapped in plastic bags, with an estimated value of R12 000, was found in his possession when a bus from Durban destined for Harding was searched.

The massive operation was held in Hibberdene last Wednesday.

He will appear in the Umzumbe Magistrate’s Court on a charge of dealing in drugs.

Other teams that formed part of the operation conducted stop and searches in various area of Hibberdene.

Five other people were arrested for cases including possession of stolen property, theft out of motor vehicle, assault with grievous bodily harm and illegal immigration.
