Heritage Day encourages South Africans across the spectrum to celebrate and honour the diversity of their cultures and traditions in the wider context of a nation that belongs to all its people.
These words were an extract from school principal Elaine Galanakis’s opening address to set the tone for this year’s Heritage Day assembly.
Hlanganani Preparatory School celebrated the special day.
Children and teachers dressed up in their colourful traditional clothes.
Everyone assembled together and learners shared different traditional items, such as isiZulu praise poetry, Zulu dances and gum-boot dancing as part of the day’s programme.
“We want our pupils to identify themselves as proudly South Africans,” said the principal.
