International supporters zoom in for hospice AGM

This was the first time a hospice AGM drew such a large attendance recorded at a hybrid meeting, both online and at the hospice house in Umkomaas.

Not even heavy rain and a thunderstorm could stop the Khanya Hospice team from having its annual general meetingrecently.

It turned out to be one of the most fun, exciting and historical meetings for hospice in some time.

This was the first time a hospice AGM drew such a large attendance recorded at a hybrid meeting, both online and at the hospice house in Umkomaas.

Due to the pandemic and thanks to technology, the online platform Zoom allowed the team to connect with board members and interested parties that evening.

Hospice board chairman Preeth Singh stated that the high attendance was definitely something for the books, but what really made it historical were the many international guests joining in on the Zoom meeting from different parts of the world in places like America, Holland, England and Belgium.

During the meeting, gratitude was shown to everyone who has assisted Khanya Hospice in any and every way possible over the past few months and years.

The annual hospice fair was discussed as this is the biggest annual fundraiser, and unfortunately much like last year, there will be no fair this year due to the ongoing pandemic.

CEO Neil McDonald explained that the hospice shops generate a lot of the income needed to do hospice work, but fundraisers and donations are always needed to keep the ship sailing.

“Our pink tree drive is coming up in October and in Movember and we would like as much support as possible,” he said.

“Khanya Hospice is also definitely going to, and seriously looking to get the in-patient unit back up and running – sooner than later.”

The hospice board will remain the same until the next AGM in September next year.

“Even though we are still facing a pandemic, we are proud of what we have accomplished and overcome in just a year and look forward to the next year,” added Neil.
