Amazing race for ‘Team McCannix’

Twenty-nine teams of four took part, starting on the rooftop at the Shelly Centre.

There were adrenaline surges of note, some pain, but much fun and laughter at this year’s Amazing Rotary Race 2021 which was held last Saturday.

South Coast McCannix, sponsored by Drop In H20 Manaba, won the event in a remarkably good time.

The winning team comprised Justin Nel, Juan Boshoff, Niki Boshoff and Tanya Kieck.

First prize included a trip to Dezzi South Coast Raceway to experience some drifting, plus a stay at Umthunzi Hotel.

Smokey Joe’s placed second and Goal Diggers third.

Popsicle Toes & Flying Unicorns raced off with the best-dressed team award.

Twenty-nine teams of four took part, starting on the rooftop at the Shelly Centre.

Contestants had to drive along the coast, using the Southern Explorer route, to Port Edward, then to Umzumbe and back to Port Shepstone.

There were 14 stops and various tasks had to be completed at each point before contestants were given a clue for the next one, very similar to the popular TV show.

Some of the tasks included puzzles, horse rides on the beach, counting bananas, paddling in a canoe, go-kart racing, counting Ferraris, and more.

The event was organised (to perfection) by the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone as a fundraising initiative for the clubs various community outreach programmes.

Port Shepstone Rotarians Shamin Maharaj (president) and Vanessa Howard-Tripp were thanked for making it all happen.

“The club is thankful to all the volunteers, sponsors, participants and the various local businesses for coming on board to host the teams and make the event the success that it was. We hope to make the Amazing Rotary Race an annual club fundraiser due to the enthusiasm it received,” said Maharaj.
