Man sentenced for receiving stolen property

Ngcameni was arrested in February last year by the Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation for receiving stolen tower batteries.

Albert Ngcameni (33), a scrap metal manager in Hibberdene was convicted and sentenced at the Scottburgh Regional Court last Thursday to six months’ imprisonment or a fine of R30 000 for receiving property suspected to be stolen.

Ngcameni was arrested in February last year by the Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation for receiving stolen tower batteries.

It is believed that the Hawks initially received information about a vehicle carrying these stolen tower batteries and through follow up investigations, they were then led to the scrap metal premises on the South Coast.

When they arrived at the premises, they discovered the tower batteries in Ngcameni’s possession and arrested him.

The Hawks arrested John Piri (26) who was also on the premises and he was charged for being in the country illegally.

Piri was convicted too and sentenced to six months’ direct imprisonment. He is expected to be deported once his sentence concludes.
