Title deeds handed to home owners

Mqwebu said this process takes long because it has to be overseen by lawyers.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) handed title deeds to home owners in Gamalakhe, Merlewood, Marburg and Palmview on Tuesday this week.

Saras Panchooa from Marburg who is the oldest at 74, was very excited to finally be the legal owner of her house.

Moses Mtshali (67) from Gamalakhe (left), Parvathy Naidoo (70) from Marburg, Jagathambal Pillay (61) also from Marburg and Grace Burn from Merlewood received their title deeds from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality on Tuesday.

The mayor of RNM, Cynthia Mqwebu handed 21 title deeds to these families.

Mqwebu said this process takes long because it has to be overseen by lawyers.

“I am sure some of you had lost hope and thought that you will never receive your title deeds. Today must be a proud day, you are officially owners of your houses and flats,” said Mqwebu.

The mayor said 17 title deeds remain to be given to owners.

She said that these are complicated cases and that the lawyers have to process them carefully and thoroughly.

“We had 663 title deeds and have given them to the owners and we are only left with 17 in all these areas.”

The respective beneficiaries were really happy, relieved and thanked the municipality.
