Tales of travels and testimonies at Stonecroft

After spending six years in Singapore, they moved to Bangkok in Thailand and so happened to be there at the time of the King's death.

Stonecroft Ministries enjoyed another successful morning tea at the Shelly Methodist Church hall last Friday.

Guests enjoyed fellowship, socialising and sharing laughs especially in light of the country’s easing of lockdown restrictions.

Joan DÁrcy was one of the guest speakers and delivered a very entertaining talk about her life in Asia as an expat wife.

In attendance at the Stonecroft morning tea are (from left) Joan D’Arcy, Angie Meek, Loretta Joffee, Sue Neilson and Vanessa Howard-Tripp.

“It is a blessing to be able to travel and experience the cultures of other countries and to accept that the differences are what makes everyone special,” she said.

Joan got to immerse herself in the culture and learnt about many customs including table manners, Chinese New Year, Chinese weddings and many more.

After spending six years in Singapore, they moved to Bangkok in Thailand and so happened to be there at the time of the King’s death.

“The country went into mourning and the people wore black clothes for a year. We as expats also complied,” explained Joan.

She added that we in South Africa are very insular and travel aids in broadening the mind.

The second guest speaker was Irene Harris, a wonderful, talented and strong woman who stood in front of guests and delivered a heart touching life story.

Irene gave insight into her former years and the hardships that she endured and how she was able to overcome them.

Having lost her father and first husband to suicide as well as a baby at a few hours, it was amazing to see how her trust and love for God had seen her through all of them.

Stonecroft always welcomes new members and the date for the next morning tea is yet to be announced.
