Two Michaels master conditions to win on 46 points

The hidden holes remain just so with Thys Swart and Tony Power collecting the Stone.

It set off as a nice day on Wednesday for a betterball Stableford at Scottburgh Golf Club, but as usual the Nor’Easter picked up just to test our mettle .

The two Michaels, Marriot and Eley mastered the conditions to win with 46 points which was only two ahead of Darren Walker and Butch Joubert on 44.
The two winners also collected for their 2 clubs and Darren rubbed it in by having two by himself.

Our 5 pin competition played on Friday afternoons is picking up, especially as the winner will pick up R200 for the effort and runner-up will trouser R100.

This week co-sponsor Alex Morris collected co-sponsor husband Pete’s money with Pete picking up a pack of practice ball for his miserly 4 points.

The competition is open to all and at only R30 per player a great start to the weekend for the winners.

Although Henry “Heno” Gradwell is not with us anymore his legend lives on. Heno was a great sponsor of golf at Scottburgh and we came second only to his family.

His big hearted sponsorship is carried on thanks to son Anthony a.k.a. Camel who organised what would have been Henry’s birthday bash.

Sixty eight members, friends and guests were in attendance and we set off in Henry’s favourite fishing weather a near gale Sou’Wester.

Pete Gilliver and Leon van Zyl carded 40 points to win but were almost beaten by playing partners Simon Cubitt and Pete Morris (Pete must have taken advantage of the practice balls he won) who matched their score for second place.

Third was Ol’ Snorky, Alan Eriksen and Mike Bremner on 39 with Graham Brown and Anton Visage fourth on 38 points.
Prizes were awarded down to 30th place with Captain Bob Hall and manager Deanne Jooste claiming it.

Instead of collecting the Stone of Scottburgh, visitors George and Gary collected four dozen jumbo sized eggs, the yokes on you boys!

Young Camel spoke affectionally of Henry in his speech and presented the Henry Gradwell trophy to the winners. Members, friends and guests then took the lively evening late right up to pumpkin time.

Coming up on Wednesday is an Individual Stableford and Saturday is still to be decided. Due to the KZN Inter-Club our course will be open with reciprocity to all members of the local clubs who are hosting the event.
