Sir, put your tools away, it’s Movember

While many brag that life begins at 40, so does annual screening at the age of 45, if there is a history of prostrate cancer.

They might not get that laundry goes into a basket, cups can be washed immediately after being used and wet towels definitely don’t need to rest on a bed… But they get it too.

While many brag that life begins at 40, so does annual screening at the age of 45, if there is a history of prostrate cancer. From the age of 50, annual screening is advised regardless. While prostrate cancer being the most common, sitting closely on the top three is, lung cancer, colorectal cancer and bladder cancer.

Early symptoms of cancer in men include: bowel changes, rectal bleeding, urinary changes, blood in urine, persistent back pain, unusual coughing, testicular lumps, excessive fatigue, unexplained weight loss and lumps in breast. It is important to have screening done and be observant of your body.

They might not get that it takes more than 30 minutes to get ready for an event, that an empty toilet roll can easily be replaced or the light bulb doesn’t need to be left unattended till the fifth reminder… But men get it too.

They get anxiety, struggle through depression and sometimes have suicidal thoughts and sometimes succeed in their attempts to take their life. Many do not speak out because society taught our men to mask up their emotions. “Men are strong”, “Men do not cry” or “Men are not emotional”. They struggle, most of the time in silence, without even a friend to talk to, because of embarrassment. It’s important to check up on our male friends, colleagues, partners and family members. Let’s normalise talking about our mental health, it’s important. Men’s health matters.

May each king find his hobby, rest and the support he needs.
