One dead and more than 15 people injured in Sheppie taxi crash

Paramedics had their hands full treating multiple injuries in the head-on collision.

One person died in a head-on collision involving two taxis earlier this evening. 

Paramedics alongside rescue services had a busy evening working to free three entrapped from a crash involving two taxis.

The accident occurred earlier this evening on the road between the low level bridge and Louisana turn-off, on Batstones Drift in Port Shepstone.

“It took us more than a hour to free the three patients, one driver and two passengers, which were entrapped in the vehicles,” said Glen Preston of Medevac.
 
He said there were more than 15 people injured, with injuries ranging from moderate to serious.
 
Craig Botha of KwaZulu Private Ambulance said paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that two patients had sustained critical injuries, four patients had sustained serious injuries and a further 10 patients had sustained minor injuries.
