A meeting to discuss the formation of a Port Shepstone 1860 legacy committee is set to take place at the Marburg Community Policing Forum Centre on September 24 at 15:00.

The arrival of Indians in 1860 marked a pivotal moment in South Africa’s history, shaping the nation’s cultural and social fabric.

Drawn by the promise of economic opportunities, many Indians, primarily from the region of Gujarat, arrived on the shores of Natal.

Their contributions to various sectors, particularly in trade and agriculture, played a crucial role in the development of the local economy, while their resilience and hard work laid the foundation for what would later become an integral part of South African society.
