Teaching legend retires after 42 years

Madhan Seevnarain has retired after 42 years of service in the education sector.

After 42 years of distinguished service, teaching legend and accounting master, and current Acting Principal of Marburg Secondary, Madhan Seevnarain retires from the education profession on December 15, leaving a legacy that anyone could be most proud of.

As a highly respected educationist, and highly sought after accounting master, he made his mark provincially and nationally as a national examiner and moderator for the Department of Basic Education (DBE)

Being a regular recipient of numerous awards for teaching excellence, Seevnarain co-authored several accounting textbooks and publications which are currently being used from Grades 10 to 12 by the DBE.

Furthermore, Seevnarain is a well established and highly respected local resident and over the decades has been recognised for his active involvement and leadership in educational, local youth and sporting organisations, and was the longest serving President of the Port Shepstone Volleyball Association.

As a disciplinarian, and a top class teacher, he demands excellence and gets the best of his students, many of whom attribute their success as chartered accountants and careers in the field of commerce and business to his inspirational high quality teaching.

The Superintendent Educational Management (Ugu District Office), Kanthan Appalraju commended Seevnarain for leading the school during the difficult and challenging times especially during the Covid-19 pandemic and praised him for his unwavering commitment, dedication, leadership and excellence in the education profession.

Seevnarain who is a workaholic, has no immediate set plans for retirement, but with the pressure of running a complex institution gone, he intends spending more quality time with his recently retired educator wife, Vigie, family and close friends.

The management, staff, governing body and learners of Marburg Secondary, wish Seevnarain all the best in his most deserved retirement.
