Man in hiding for attempted murder arrested

A 37-year-old woman was shot and wounded by a known suspect while at Mkolombe area on December 16, 2021.

Lindikhaya Matiwana (28) was arrested by Port Shepstone detectives at Mkholombe Informal Settlement in Port Shepstone last Wednesday.

Information led detectives to a house in which Matiwana, who was wanted for attempted murder, was hiding.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that during his arrest, the search continued for the weapon that was used during the commission of the crime.

A 9mm pistol with a magazine was found in the house. The recovered firearm was reported stolen in Port Shepstone in October 2021.

It is alleged that on December 16, 2021, a 37-year-old woman was shot and wounded by a known suspect while at Mkolombe area.

Matiwana made his first appearance in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on January 7 where he faced charges of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.

He remains in police custody until January 17, for a formal bail application.
