Tourism stakeholders meet in Ramsgate to strengthen sector
Key points discussed were tourism best practices, governance, policy alignment and funding opportunities amongst others.
Municipal tourism stakeholders recently came together for a day of knowledge-sharing, engagement and collaboration on the South Coast.
This was made possible by South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE) in partnership with the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs through a Provincial Municipal Tourism Information Sharing Session at Bellevue Guest Lodge in Ramsgate on August 20.
The conference focused on strengthening tourism coordination and ensuring that municipalities are equipped with relevant information and support to advance tourism development within their respective areas.
Key points discussed were tourism best practices, governance, policy alignment, institutional and support mechanisms, funding opportunities, administrative and procedural matters, and tourism update reports.
It was also a platform to share experiences, insights into best practices, and opportunities to strengthen tourism planning, governance and implementation.
Delegates visited the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve, Vulture Hide, and Lake Eland Game Reserve to experience the region’s natural attractions and tourism products first-hand.
The excursion showed the importance of destination knowledge in strengthening tourism promotion and encouraged delegates to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences and attractions available on the South Coast.
SCTIE CEO Dr Vusumuzi Sibiya said the information-sharing session provided an important platform for strengthening collaboration, sharing best practices and improving everyone’s understanding of the systems that support tourism development.
“When tourism stakeholders understand and experience our destinations, we are better positioned to promote them effectively and unlock opportunities for sustainable and inclusive economic growth,” he said.
Furthermore, the programme highlighted the value of continued collaboration between provincial, municipal and tourism structures to strengthen the tourism sector, improve coordination and create opportunities for economic development.
