Every coin counts for Rotary

The Rotary Club of Port Shepstone held its annual Coins for Charity Project at both the Shelly Centre and Southcoast Mall last Saturday.
The project was an astounding success and in excess of R30 000 was raised.
All proceeds will be used within the Lower South Coast area for a community grant to Child Welfare to support and assist needy children with necessary uniforms, stationery and school supplies for the new school year in 2022.

Rowan D’Arcy, secretary of the club, said that during this unique day-long event, a broad strip of tape is fixed along the floor, sponsor logos are prominently displayed and patrons are encouraged to dig into their pockets and wallets to contribute towards the fundraiser.
Donors were invited to place their small change in coins, or sometimes even large denominations in notes, onto the sticky tape while Rotarians, representatives from Child Welfare and other volunteers explained the purpose of the event.
In this way, many shoppers, staff and passers-by took a few moments to contribute and help those in need.
“Many local businesses, organisations and individuals also put their muscle and money behind this novel event. They responded to our advertisement and outgoing letters prior to the day and pledged their support in advance, said D’Arcy.

The members of Rotary Club of Port Shepstone wish to express their gratitude to every person who responded to their call for support of this worthy cause. It truly reinforces their motto ‘Service Above Self’.
