Rugby academy moves to new premises

After five years in Uvongo, the Southern KZN (SKZN) Rugby Academy is moving on to greener pastures, as they have confirmed a move to the Genesis Youth Centre at the Norwegian Settlers Church in Marburg.
Catering for players aged 18 and 22, the move will see the academy set up at Genesis which will serve as the new home of staff, players and home games as well.
According to SKZN Rugby Academy director and SKZN Sub-Union president Doug Haralambous, the decision to move adds huge value to the academy as the campus at Genesis has more to offer their students. Other facilities include a boma for recreational purposes, a lecture room and administration offices as well as a field office.
“We are excited about this move as things can only get better from here, especially with the facilities on offer. The strength and conditioning programme will be enhanced by the availability of a huge gym and state-of-the-art crossfit centre,” he said.
“The partnership with Genesis can only add value to the academy,” added Haralambous.
The partnership was also welcomed by Pastor Trevor Downham of Norwegian Settlers Church.
“No one can achieve greatness on their own, regardless of who or what they may be. We are excited to embark on a partnership with the academy, to raise young men who will become leaders and follow their dreams on and off the rugby field,” Downham said.
Aside from all the rugby programmes which are included under the academy’s enrolment, there will be academic courses and an excellent life skills programme on offer.
In addition to the academy move, the SKZN Rugby Sub Union has entered an U20 team into the KZN Frank Norris A division league and will be competing against the top teams in the province.
