UPDATE: More details about Monday’s fire in Port Shepstone

On the same evening, the fire team also attended to a second fire at the same time in Marburg where a Wendy house was affected.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipal spokesman Simon April released the following information about the building which was on fire in Port Shepstone on Monday evening, January 24 evening.

  • RNM Emergency Control Room received a call on Monday from a member of the public reporting a fire in the Umbango area at 20:09.
  • Fire Services was immediately dispatched and upon arrival at the scene they found a supermarket in Deepvale road ablaze.
  • The fire was brought under control by the fire team, they dampened down the fire and smouldering debris.
  • Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other neighbouring properties.
  • The affected building as well as contents sustained smoke and fire damages, however there were no injuries.
  • The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
  • It is worth mentioning that another fire team attended a second fire at the same time in Marburg where a Wendy house was affected.
