WATCH: Ray Nkonyeni Municipality elects mayor, deputy mayor, chief whip

A meeting was held at council chambers today.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM)  has chosen Skhumbuzo ‘Zero’ Mqadi as the new mayor at a meeting at council chambers today.

Three months after local government elections were held,  RNM had a number of issues related to electing the top three positions – mayor, deputy mayor and chief whip.

Mr Mqadi was contesting for the mayoral position against Leon Garbade of the Democratic Alliance.

The total of number of votes was 70. Mqadi received 45 votes and Garbade 23 votes. Two votes were spoilt.

Deputy mayor Sbusiso Shange was elected uncontested.

The chief whip is Teddy Hlope.
