Man charged with perjury

Public is cautioned against misusing state resources which can be directed to the communities where they are most required.

A 29-year-old man was arrested by Port Shepstone detectives after opening a false case at the police station recently.

The man alleged that he went to his business premises in Bhoboyi, and noticed a strange vehicle with four unknown occupants parked outside the premises.

He further alleged that he was accosted and robbed at gunpoint of a substantial amount of cash. Two vehicles were also stolen.

Upon investigation, police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said it became apparent that the accused lied to the police when he opened a case. He was immediately arrested.

The man made his first court appearance on a charge of perjury in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on January 17.

The matter was postponed for bail application.

Mpinge said the public is cautioned against misusing state resources which can instead be directed to communities where they are most required.
