Police nab 2064 suspects for various crimes in KZN

The police also recovered 107 illegal firearms and 503 rounds of ammunition.

KwaZulu-Natal police are fulfilling their core mandate of serving and protecting communities without fear or favour.

Police officers will not tolerate criminality and will ensure that criminals are put behind bars.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele said officers in the province will continue to fight crime to the bitter end and this is confirmed by the positive outcome achieved in the last week during intelligence driven operations around the province.

During weekly operations which were carried out from January 17 to 24, police arrested 2064 suspects for crimes ranging from murders, attempted murders, robberies, fraud, possession of suspected stolen property, theft of motor vehicle, drugs, rape, assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property and other crimes.

* 43 suspects were arrested for murder.
* 24 for attempted murder
* 20 for robberies
* 53 sexual assault and rape
* 423 assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm
* 95 for theft and burglary
* 223 for fraud and shoplifting
* 467 for drug related crimes.
* Police also seized 52 vehicles, some were stolen or the owners robbed ,and some were involved in the commission of crime.

The police also recovered 107 illegal firearms and 503 rounds of ammunition.

Large quantities of liquor and non-ferrous metal was also confiscated during the operations.

The suspects appeared in the various courts within the province where some were remanded in custody whilst other were released on bail.
